FIM Service and Portal instalation
I am trying to install FIM 2010.The installation is spit into two HyperV virtual machines. VM1 has FIM Synchronization service and SQL server. VM2 supposed to have FIM Service and FIM Portal. I followed the FIM 2010 installation manual but unfortunatelywhen installingFIM serviceI got the following message: "Service 'Forefront Identity Manager Service' (FIMserviceaccount) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services."I couldn't find any hint online on where the permissions need to be added to make the service start. Can anyone help?

Do you have any other information in the eventlog? The error message you see is a generic Windows error message when a service fails to start. There might be a more descriptive error message in the eventlog. If not, a windows installer log would be usefu. Run:msiexec /i <path to msi> /l*v <your path here>\log.txtYou can send the log to me at ilm2beta@microsoft.com/Andreas KjellmanThis posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. Thank you for your reply.I looked at the event log. Right before the installation fails to start the service, it has about 12 warnings inthe event log, saying: "Windows detected your registry file is still in use by other applications or services. The file will be unloaded now. The applications or services that hold your registry file may not function properly afterwards." I tried restarting the computer but that didn't help.I tried to sent the log file toilm2beta@microsoft.combut the mail was undelivered. Thank you, so much.

Please help...I reinstalled the entire system and I sill cannot complete the FIM Service and Portal instalation. The error persists during the service and portal installation. I can't get any further. I don't see what am I doing wrong. I exactly follow the installation instructions word by word. The error message is: "Service 'Forefront Identity Manager Service' (FIMService) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services."In the windows application event log I get about 12 warnings right before the error message. The warning say: "Windows detected your registry file is still in use by other applications or services. The file will be unloaded now. The applications or services that hold your registry file may not function properly afterwards." I restarted the computer hoping to free up the registry use. That didn't help. This link contains the instalation log at the time when the error message popsup and also after the cancel instalation button is clicked:http://sites.google.com/site/fiminstallerlog/

Apparently when the installation is split between two servers like in my case, the service account for FIMService (the one that runs the service) should not be configured in the secure matter (deny logon as a batch job, deny logon locally, deny access to this computer from the network) on the server with the synchronization service. FIM Service account should be configured in the secure matter only on the server with FIM Service and Portal. This was the reason the FIM Service couldn't start and gave me the error.
