FIM SSPR Problem: The Forefront Identity Manager service has not started yet
Hi, I have FIM set up and configured in a two forest lab setup and I'm having trouble with SSPR. My scenario is: Forest np.test contains the FIM Service, Sync Service and Portal. It's a Windows 2008 R2 forest and all the servers are Windows 2008 R2. Forest dev.com contains clients which I'm looking to use SSPR on. It's a Windows 2003 Forest with XP SP3 clients. There is a two way Forest Trust in place. There's an MA for each Forest syncing accounts into the Sync Service and a Sync rule to sync accounts into the portal. I've installed the SSPR add-ons onto an XP machine with IE8 in dev.com to test registration. I get the error "The Forefront Identity Manager service has not started yet. Please wait one minute and try again.". Naturally I have waited a minute and check that the service is running. This happens both when I try through the Gina reset button or the portal registration link. I found a similar post where someone had this issue caused by the FIM service URL portal not being in the Intranet zone so I added it to the intranet zone. Any ideas please?

Hi Anthony, Like I said, I had already checked that the service was running. I worked out what the problem was now. When I installed the sspr add-on, I entered the FIM service address as https://idweb.np.test:5725. The installer appended :5725 to the end of this which meant that in the registry under HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Forefront Identity Manager\2010\Extensions\Intranet, the address key read https://idweb.np.test:5725:5725. That got me part of the way there, then I turned on tracing and found that it wasn't happy about the https bit so I changed it to http. I no longer get the same error, but I have a different problem now which I'll try and work through. Thanks.
