FIM RTM to R2 RC to R2 RTM upgrade paths and dates
Hi, Could someone from MS elaborate on the upgrade paths from FIM RTM (which rollup versions) to FIM R2 RC? And then what will be possible between R2 RC and R2 RTM? Now that FIM R2 RC is out, are there any revised dates for FIM R2 RTM? thanks in advance, Piotr

Piotr, The install guide for 2010 R2 RC indicates.. Upgrade is supported for all server components from all builds prior to 4.0.3579.2. If you have a build equal to or later than 4.0.3579.2 installed, you will not be able to upgrade to FIM 2010 R2 RC, and will have to perform a fresh installation. I haven't seen any info about RC->RTMFrank C. Drewes III - Senior Consultant: Oxford Computer Group

Hi Frank, I've seen that note, but I've also seen the note on the Connect site when downloading the RC, it says: This is an evaluation release so does not support an in-place upgrade of a FIM 2010 full installation. You can only do a clean installation of this release--that is, an installation that creates a new FIM database. However, the final, full version of FIM 2010 R2 will support in-place upgrade of an existing FIM 2010 full installation. And if it IS possible, like the install guide says, then I'd like to confirm upgrading from the latest rollup (4.0.3594.2) will not work. Still looking for some info about RC -> RTM upgrade. Thanks, Piotr

Hi Piotr, To answer your questions: 1. Upgrade from any build <= 4.0.3594.2 is supported with the RC build. 2. The projected dates for FIM 2010 R2 RTM are H1 of CY’12. 3. The upgrade paths to R2 RTM will be updated shortly. Let me know if that helps. Thanks! Best regards, Saurabh

What do you mean by H1 I get Q1 for first Quarter but what does H1 mean?

I believe that means '1st half' - Which would be the end of June.Frank C. Drewes III - Senior Consultant: Oxford Computer Group
