FIM Profiles Frequency
Hi, Just a follow up question to http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/ilm2/thread/f60ac385-6af4-4b17-9e9e-e39c460005f1 thread. So its pretty easy to export the profiles and run a scheduled batch file - but the question now is: How often should this sync batch file run? Is there any guidance as to the frequency of the Run Profiles when scheduled? Thanks.

It really depends how often the data you're synchronizing changes. Some customers I have this running every 5 to 15 minutes and others once a day, others somewhere inbetween. If your data is only coming from say HR and you get that data updated once a day then there's no sense in running the schedule outside of that. If you've also got folks updating stuff in the portal, though, then you're going to need to run the schedule frequently enough to move data out of the portal and in to the various MAs.My Book - Active Directory, 4th Edition My Blog - www.briandesmond.com

this depends on the requirements of how fast changes should propagate to other systems. It also depends on how much data needs to be processed each time you run a certain Run Profile (Import, Sync and Export) of a certain MA. Exports are always delta, but Imports and Sync can either be FULL or DELTA. You now need to find moments to execute "delta" related run profiles and moments to execute "full" related run profiles. Possible scenarios could be: [1] during the day: multiple deltas during the night: one full [2] during the day: multiple deltas during the weekend: one full Jorge de Almeida Pinto [MVP-DS / AD DS TechNet Forums Moderator] [Sr. Technical Consultant @ Oxford Computer Group] (http://blogs.dirteam.com/blogs/jorge/default.aspx) (http://www.oxfordcomputergroup.com/)

Thanks guys, good ideas. Jorge - if we are doing delta sync's during the day - why would you need to do a full sync at night? shouldnt the connected systems be up to date with delta sync's? thanks

yes, you should be OK to live just with DELTAs. However, just to be sure nothing is missed, make sure to also use FULL sometime Jorge de Almeida Pinto [MVP-DS / AD DS TechNet Forums Moderator] [Sr. Technical Consultant @ Oxford Computer Group] (http://blogs.dirteam.com/blogs/jorge/default.aspx) (http://www.oxfordcomputergroup.com/)

with the FULL SYNC you just make sure that every available config (in MA or SyncRule) is applied to every object in the CSJorge de Almeida Pinto [MVP-DS / AD DS TechNet Forums Moderator] [Sr. Technical Consultant @ Oxford Computer Group] (http://blogs.dirteam.com/blogs/jorge/default.aspx) (http://www.oxfordcomputergroup.com/)
