FIM Portal on SharePoint 2010?
I see that there are two FIM services that are automatically installed on SharePoint 2010, but I can't find the FIM portal. I would like to use the FIM portal on SharePoint 2010 to configure self service user/group provisioning for Project 2010 extranet users. Is this possible or do I need to install a Sharepoint 3.0 portal to enable this? regards David

The FIM Portal is not available with SharePoint 2010 and you cannot install it either. Would will need the full FIM product to get access to it. /AndreasThis posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. Interesting I've just been reading the Technet articles about FIM, the latter part of David's question is not answered. I'm also interested in FIM (the full product not the cut down bit that comes with SharePoint 2010) for an extranet project, the Technet articles (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff512685(WS.10).aspx) for FIM all refer to SharePoint Services 3.0, does this mean that it is not supported with 4 i.e. 2010? As I don't particularly want to setup another SharePoint farm with an older version just for this.

Setup for FIM will currently not detect that SharePoint 2010 is installed and will not allow you to continue. Right now only WSS 3.0 will work. /Andreas This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. So does anyone know what is cut out in FIM 2010 on Sharepoint 2010? Just wondering what limits are on it?

So does anyone know what is cut out in FIM 2010 on Sharepoint 2010? Just wondering what limits are on it? Hi All, I am interesting in the same thing. We may have some needs for Sharepoint 2010 and we want to upgrade our MIIS installation to FIM 2010. So I'd like to kill two birds with one stone. I think it would be confusing for the use to have two Sharepoint-like portal (FIM portal and Sharepoint 2010). I'd like to have one and only one web interface. Will FIM 2010 fully support Sharepoint 2010 in a near future? Thanks, Sam

The concept for FIM in SharePoint 2010 is to replace the old Business Data Catalog. It should act to bring in data from other sources, just like the BDC did, into SharePoint. If I understand correctly, the SharePoint UI is driving programmatic configuration of the FIM Sync and Service components and acts as the portal does in these cases, you just don't have access to it yourself. What is obviously not well understood is how extensible the FIM Service component is for SharePoint 2010 or whether or not the FIMAutomation class is supported via PowerShell. We are hoping to see more of this "utility" consumption in other Microsoft products as it does several things for us long term: Increases overall funding for FIM development Drives further extensibility and integration with other first class products (think MAs here) Provides a richer upgrade story and path - could result in lower licensing costs Diversifies the FIM development story outside of the FIM team Brad Turner, ILM MVP - Ensynch, Inc - www.identitychaos.com

I'm wondering if you can leverage the "full FIM 2010 product" to synchronise user profiles into Sharepoint 2010 or do need always next to that the build-in FIM engine of Sharepoint 2010. Frank.Kind Regards, Frank van Rijt

FIM 2010 does not ship with the User Profile management agent for SharePoint. Using FIM for this purpose would not be very easy. We certainly recommend to use the sync service shipped in Office for this purpose. /Andreas

I've been able to use MOSS 2007 instead of WSS 3.0 without any issues ... /Frank

Hey Frank, Is this configuration supported by Microsoft? Are there many benefits for using MOSS 2007 over WSS 3.0? Thanks, Sam

If i'm correct the only supported sharepoint flavour for the FIM 2010 portal is WSS 3.0 SP1 or SP2. It's not explictely stated in the installation guide, but there are several topics on this forum stating it: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff512684(WS.10).aspx -> look for the FIM Portal requirementshttp://setspn.blogspot.com

Thanks, Thomas. I am little unhappy that Microsoft released FIM 2010 with no integration with SharePoint 2010. FIM release was postpone one year. I thought they were working on making those two products compatible. I went to a SharePoint 2010 introduction seminar, where it was explained that the new SharePoint has a much better workflow engine than SharePoint 2007, which is supposed to be improvement over WSS 3.0 ...
