This specific to the way the FIM MA works. You might want to update to the latest rollup (3573), there was some work done around the group perf in one of those builds, but, I don't remember which. My Book - Active Directory, 4th Edition My Blog - www.briandesmond.com

Hi, I have been in the ILM world for about 5 years, but have been into FIM for about 3 weeks now. I have a question about how the FIM MA works. The behavior that I am seeing is this: I make a change to the criteria for Security Group A in the FIM portal which will result in a membership change for the group. I run a Delta Import on the FIM MA. At the end of the Delta Import run if I look at the staging synchronization statistics I see 25 updates, all for the same object ID (of group A). Secondary to this, the Delta Import seems to take a lot of time to process. In this case, Group A deleted 1200 members from a total membership of 1300, this took 9 minutes to process which seems excessively long to me. So I am wondering if anyone can tell me how the FIM MA actually processes a group change, because I am not understanding why I would see 25 discreet updates to the same object ID and secondary, why it takes so long to process. If you need any additional info let me know. (Server specs: 2cpu, 16GB RAM..) Thanks in advance!

What build of FIM are you on? What you're describing in terms of the multiple updates showing up is expected. My Book - Active Directory, 4th Edition My Blog - www.briandesmond.com

We are running build 4.0.3547.2. Good to know it's expected. :) I am wondering what is going on there though? Normally (pre-FIM) I would expect to see only a single object being updated in the Staging Sync Statistics. Does the MA somehow split the work into multiple passes or something? Also, is such a long time to update a single group object expected as well? Thanks!
