FIM Add-in installed and now two login boxes
I have set the policy for 'Do not display last username' on my Windows 7 machines. When I have installed FIM Add-in and extensions I now get two Other User boxes when prompted to login. One has the password reset option the other doesn't. Does anyone know a fix to remove the unwanted Other User login box so only the one with the password reset link is displayed. See screeshot. Box on left has Reset Password when clicked. Box on right doesn't

I don't know if this would be an acceptable workaround, but you could try to disable the welcome screen and use the classic logon screen instead. See Understand and Configure the Welcome Screen and Classic Logon Screen. Chris

Chris, Cheers for that I've just installed the R2 client and it kind of fixes the problem for me. Rather than displaying the two logins together it loads up the one with the Reset Password link. The user can press switch user (even though I have disabled switch user via GPO) and bring up the two boxes. However there's no benefit for the user to do this. It seems a halfway fix which I am happy to live with for now. Thanks Bago

I've noticed this functionality in our DEV environment as well after installing the Password Reset client on a Windows 7 workstation. It also seems to break the auto-login when using RDP. I'm curious to see how it reacts if installed on Citrix server that is used to host the password reset application, but haven't gotten time to test it.

Whilst the above is a quick fix for now I also have an issue with RDP connections. I've installed FIM in both a test and live environment and have the same issue in both environments. Maybe I'm doing something wrong but surely there is a fix for this. Has anyone come across this and resoved? Cheers Bago

I am fairly certain that you have installed another software which adds another credential provider (e.g. Wireless SSO, etc etc). Is that the case?

Your absolutely right. We are running 2X application server and the SSO feature of that is causing an issue. Once I removed the 2X client the duplication was gone. I will investigate further. Thanks for the assist.

See http://blogs.technet.com/b/aho/archive/2009/11/15/custom-credential-provider-for-password-reset.aspx Short version of the story: LogonUI has the extensibility to let anyone to add/remove Credential Provider to the screen (and CredUI). Each Credential Provider decide what Credential (tile) to display. The very similar tiles u see are actually coming from different Credential Providers. Due to the isolation in the extensibility model, you can't expect one CP to know anything about another CP. This is a side effect of having two CP that authors similar UI. P.S. the smartcard logon is another CP that provides different UIThe FIM Password Reset Blog http://blogs.technet.com/aho/
