FIM 2010 Support for Lotus Notes MA and 8.5x Clients
The last post found covering this subject is from May 2010. I wanted to know if there has been any progress made in supporting Lotus Notes 8.5x clients in a FIM 2010 enivornment. All of our Notes clients have been upgraded to v8.5. Is a roll back to Notes client v7.x required for successful implementation of FIM in a Domino/Notes enviornment? Has anyone gotten it to work with Notes 8.5? Thank you.

AFIK, Lotus Notes MA uses Local Notes client APIs [Lotus Notes MA -> DCOM -> Lotus Client APIs -> Domino] to communicate with Domino server. If you are able to access Domino server / Mailboxes through Lotus Notes Client [installed on the ILM / FIM Sync Server] 5.x or 7.x using your dedicated FIM-Domino account, Lotus Notes MA can also work.

I'm not a Notes expert but you don't have to roll back anything the only thing that's important is that you use a Notes 7 client on the FIM server for communication with the Domino server. //HenrikHenrik Nilsson, ILM/FIM MVP Blog: http://www.idmcrisis.com Company: Cortego (http://www.cortego.se)

As I mentioned in May 2010 :), the APIs that the Lotus Notes MA uses were deprecated by IBM with version 8 of Lotus Notes. To support Lotus Notes 8+, the MA will need to rebuilt to support the new API. Unfortunately, I haven't heard of any changes in the pipeline related to that. That being said, I have used the Lotus Notes MA to managed a Lotus Notes 8.5 environment, using the Lotus Notes v7 client installed on the FIM server. This is the only client instance that will need to be v7; it should not affect your v8.5 client deployment. YMMV if trying to work with v8 functionality or templates however. You'll need to do some thorough testing. Cheers, Marc Marc Mac Donell, ILM MVP, VP Identity and Access Solutions, Avaleris Inc. http://www.avaleris.com

Also remember that not all Notes objects are recognised in a Notes MA connector space (e.g. mail-in-database objects) ... meaning (for example) that existing Notes group membership/ownership can be compromised if the FIM sync service writes back to Notes (i.e. it will strip out those members which are not recognised by the MA). We are all still looking forward to a new Notes MA being released for FIM in the not too distant future (???).Bob Bradley, www.unifysolutions.net (FIMBob?)
