FIM 2010 R2 - Rename SynchronizationService Database
Hello! In order to standardize the names of SQL Databases, my DBA wants to rename FIM Synchronization Service's database from FIMSynchronizationService to FIMSYNCHRONIZATIONSERVICE. After having renamed the Database, the FIM Synchronization Service doesn't start. Is it posible to rename the DB name or must I uninstall the service and launch the Synhcronization Service installation in unattend mode (and specifying the wanted name) ? I didn't find any information about this task. Thank you for your help!Kevin PHELIPPO http://blogs.nelite.com/blogs/identitysolutions/default.aspx

I'd try to change also DBName value in SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\FIMSynchronizationService\Parameters http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff800821%28WS.10%29.aspx

You may not be in a Microsoft-supported configuration if you alter anything regarding the structure of the database. I would think that could include the name. I haven't tried what you've done, but I would not be surprised to see problems were you to apply updates to FIM with the database renamed. At the very least, ensure you've done the same thing to your test/dev environment before you test updates. Leaving the database name alone would make it stand out as a database that shouldn't be messed with if all the corporate-owned databases were all caps. But that's just my $0.02. That link is a good one to have, regardless! Chris
