FIM 2010 (ILM v2) Licensing Model ?
Hello !Hope you can help me out with a rather untechnical question...here it goes...have just learn that ILM V2 will be Forefront Identity Manager 2010, but I haven't found any information regarding the licensing model, rumors I've heard is that the license model willbe "per user" or with need of CAL'sregardless of usage (ILM 2007 differentiatesthe need of CAL's IF and only IF one use CLM 2007 and issue certificates...if one only use the sync enginea server license will suffice) ?I guess that the portal functions of FIM 2010 might haveresulted in the (imo negative)change of licence model ?Anyone who has some info regarding the licensing aspects of FIM 2010 ?/A

In ILM 2007 there was a server license, plus CALs for users of CLM.In FIM 2010 there is still a server license, plus CALs for users in the FIM database. Not sure if that same user CAL covers CLM, but I would assume so.CraigMartin Oxford Computer Group http://identitytrench.com

It is my clear understanding thatthe CALwill cover CLM and FIM (since CLM is part of FIM).David Lundell www.ilmBestPractices.com

Thanks for the replies guys !Have some questions still though:@Craig: in regards to "...plus CALs for users in the FIM database", can you elaborate on "FIM database" as I hope that the FIM database is not the same as the Metaverse ? Or to be more specific; if one has "user objects" in the Metaverse, then one has to have a CAL for each "user object" in the Metaverse, regardless of CLM/Portal functions?@David: am I to understand that one has to have to buy CAL's either way (no more"sync server licensing") ?The reason I'm curious is that the "per (provisioned ?) user licensing"implies that a (large) organisation pondering FIM 2010 willhave to buy "all or nothing", and thereby not having the choice presented in ILM 2007, to "license wise" start with the sync engine andafter a while "move on" to the CLM part of ILM2007 and obtain CAL's.Don't get me wrong,as I haveunderstood from theFIM capabilities the portal functions is great butthe (possible ?) "per user" licensing modelmay cause some hesitation with large user organisations, some of our custermerscommented on the fact that thelicense model in ILM 2007 makes the product even more interesting andif FIM 2010 will use a "per user" license model this benefit would be lost and the product (even though tecnically very interesting) would lose it's economical advantagecompared to compeeting solutions./A

Hi! The licencing will continue to be the same for the sync engine meaning no CALs but all "new" features meaning the FIM Service with the FIMDB will require CALs together with CLM. The price is said to be the same - 15.000$ for the product and 25$/CAL. You can start out using the sync engine in FIM without CALs but as soon as you start to provision users out to the FIMDB or use CLM you'll have to start buying CALs. //HenrikHenrik Nilsson
