Extending web application but using different site template is it possible?
I would like to extend a web application so the extension uses a different site template. At the moment the application uses the Team Site template and I would like the extension to use one of the publishing templates. The reason I want to do this is to be able to share the content between the two sites so that my users do not have to upload content to two places and also give the two sites a distinct look. What I've tried already was do the obvious - Click Create/Extend application and did extend. But you know, as I think of it I probably could change the master page for the team site and the users wouldn't know the difference. It would just mean that they would have to figure out where their stuff ended up at. Hmm. Anyway, how would I go about extending the application and using a different template? Thanks!

While browsing the internet I came across something called Content Deployment, might this be a better option? http://blogs.msdn.com/b/jackiebo/archive/2007/02/26/content-deployment-step-by-step-tutorial.aspx http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc263423(office.12).aspx I'll have to investigate this option.

Hi, 1. The extended site is using the same ContentDb, so you would NOT be able to have the default zone use one site template and the extended zone use another. 2. Content deployment is normally used for pushing changes that have been approved in DEV to Stage and from Stage to Production. Please let us know what the objective is, you mention saving data in two locations and you mention using two different site templates. What are you treying to achieve? -IvanIvan Sanders My LinkedIn Profile, My Blog, @iasanders.
