Extend Web Application on different web server
I have a production MOSS application with Intranet and Internet portals. The Internet Portal is a Extended Web Application from Intranet Portal. The Extend Web Application (Central Admin -> Application Management -> Create Or Extend Web Application -> Extend an existing Web application) was done on one web server. I am now migrating the application to a different data center, one of the requirements is: internal web server and external web server should be on different DMZ. My question is: is it possible to extend a web application from a different server? -Bin

You can extend Web Application from any server in Web Farm. Moreover you can connect WFE servers to different Load Balancers in different DMZs. Oleg

You can not Extend Web Application just for one WFE Server but you can connect two WFE servers to different NLBs. Oleg

"Extend Web Application" is one functionality in Central Admin. And we haven't found any way to choose web application on another WFE.-Bin

All Sharepoint servers in WebFarm are using the same configuration database and the same content databases. You can not choose WFE server because WFEs do not have idividual settings. You can Extend Web Application from any server in your web farm by using stsadm -o extendvs ... if you do not like Central Admin but in any case Web App will be extendet on all servers in Web Farm. I guess in your case you have to install two different SharePoint Web Farms in different DMZs and use Content Deployment to synchronize content. Oleg
