Exporting data to an excell spreadsheet
Hello, I am trying to export data to an excel spreadsheet using SSIS, but I do not have excel installed on the server where I am running the SSIS package. When I try to create the excel file, I get an error. Do I have to have excel installed in order to create the file? Any help would be appreciated DaveDave SQL Developer

Hello Dave, Yes you do, if you cannot install it perhaps a CSV file would do the trick (because it is supported by Excel natively). BUT: there is a trick that works with the newer Excel editions/versions: output to HTML like: <html> <body> <table> <tr> <td style="background-color:#acc3ff">Cell1</td> <td style="font-weight:bold">Cell2</td> </tr> </table> </body> </html> and give it xls extension. Excel will handle that (convert this)Arthur My Blog

Hello Dave, You need not have the Excel installed on the server. Could you please let us know the error you are getting? Easy way to import data is as follows: 1. Create an Excel file on the system having the Excel installed. 2. Copy this file onto the server where you run the SSIS package. 3. Create a connection manager in your package pointing to this file on the server. 4. Run the package This should work.
