I have a Sharepoint Survey with a lot of branching logic and I want to export the responses to excel. In the survey settings I am getting a warning 'This list or library contains a large number of items'. When I try to do the export I am getting the following message 'Excel cannot connect to the SharePoint list'. Any advice would be appreciated. (WSS 3.0)

Hi Dublinlass, Did you use Form-based authentication or not? Did you customize on the site or install WSE 2.0 on the site? (WSE 2.0 - Web services Enhancements) If you have the WSE 2.0 installed on SharePoint server then following entry gets added in web.config file of ISAPI folder. (C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\ISAPI\ ) <soapExtensionTypes> <add type="Microsoft.Web.Services2.WebServicesExtension,Microsoft.Web.Services2,Version=2.0.0.0,Culture=neutral,PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35" priority="1" group="0" /> </soapExtensionTypes> Delete the above entry from the web.config file of ISAPI. (C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\ISAPI\ ) (Note: Make sure that it won't affect the customization) In addition, you can try to create a new web application, then check whether you can export survey into spreadsheet. If you can do that on the new web application, next back up the web.config file of the old web application, then copy the web.config file of the new web application and replace the web.config file of the old web application with the new one.
