Export to flat file with column headings
I have searched the forum, but not found an example or answer for this relatively simple (I thought) request: how can I (using SSIS 2008) export a flat file that contains the column headings? (I.e., in SQL Enterprise Manager, I run a query, then
select the output with column headings and paste into Excel, then save as a .TXT file for importing. I want to replace these manual steps with an SSIS package.)
I've taken a look at the flat file transformation, and haven't found anything like a checkbox to include column headings... So looking for a way... Many thanks,
Dave

Easy: there is a setting in the Flat File Manager - General Page - Column Names in the First Data Row. Just tick it on (enable). It will skip the header.
PS: I believe you have built a package off the Data Import Export Wizard?
If not you can run this export using this wizard (right click on the database and choose tasks, Export), save the result as a package, then open it in BIDS.
