Execution Account - Unknown user name or bad password - NOT
Because I had to add a reference (System.Data.SqlClient) to my report, I had to add an Unattended Execution Account to SSRS (2008 Enterporise). I also had to make some chasnges to three of the .config files. These changes that I made are detailed in this article: http://www.networksteve.com/enterprise/topic.php/SSRS_2008-_custom_code_for_database_query/?TopicId=47814&Posts=1 The account which I specified for the Unattended Execution account is my own network domain account. And my network domain account is an Administrator on the SSRS machine. And - my User Name is correct, my Password is correct - and my password is NOT expired. However, when I attempt to access the report, I now get the dreaded "Login failure: Unknown user name or bad password." I would rather not have an Unattended Execution account, however, according to the article referenced above, I have to have one. I even changed the Shared Data Source for the reports to required no credentials. Perhaps I don't understand enough about security.... Is anyone able to offer any suggestions? Thanks in advance. ~ Celia ~

Never mind....I went in an just took off the Unattended Execution account - and the reports now work fine - and my report Reference to System.Data.SqlClient remains. I did, however, keep the changes to the three (3) .config files. I guess, then, that an Unattended Execution account is NOT necessary, after all, in order to use References within a report. Just FYI...

Hi CeliaObl, Thanks for your post. According to your description, it seems like your report doesn’t involve any resources which located on another server, the only reference is just an assembly, so unattended execution account isn’t necessary to your report. Basically, this account is used under special circumstances when other sources of credential are not available, please refer to the two conditions below: 1. When the report server connects to a data source that does not require credentials. Examples of data sources that might not require credentials include XML documents and some client-side database applications. 2. When the report server connects to another server to retrieve external image files or other resources that are referenced in a report. More information about Execution Account, please refer to the link below: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms181156.aspx Thanks, Bill LuPlease remember to mark the replies as answers if they help and unmark them if they provide no help.
