Exchange Server 2013 - Dynamic Distribution Groups

Hello all,

Currently my email system separates department emails through dynamic distribution groups; when staff are on holiday they like to be removed from their email groups so they've not got masses of emails when they return. For this I was simply going to to move them to another organisational unit to prevent them from receiving these emails however this doesn't seem to update; where as the normal distribution groups I remove them from do.

Is there a way to force exchange to re-check OU memberships?

Many thanks

Hello,

Dynamic distribution list membership should also change when you change the OU membership of mailbox. So, need to check if there are some replication issues among multiple DCs with in your active directory.

Anyways, check the Distribution group membership by using the following cmdlet

Get-DistributionGroupMember

If there are multiple DCs, check the group from different DCs and see if the changes are really reflecting across !

Thanks for the quick response.

Looked into Get-DistributionGroupMember already however it only pulls the standard distribution groups, not the dynamic ones.

Also checked the replication against DC's, changes match up instantly.

Cheers

-- Update

Went about it in a different way. Set up a holiday group and a rule to block all emails where the member isn't in the to or cc; so I can just add someone to the group when they're on holiday.

Hi JoeWJ,

Thank you for your question.

Did the Manus suggestion solve your problems?

Did you change it to dynamic distribution group to check if the issue persist?

In addition above suggestion, we could disable mailbox when the user is on holiday if we few users on holiday.

If there are any questions regarding this issue, please be free to let me know.

Best Regard,

Jim

Hi Jim,

No but the update I posted seems to have done the job.

Sorry I don't understand the second question, it's already a dynamic distribution group that the probably persists with, I've tried it with distribution groups and they update correctly.

Disabling the mailbox would prevent emails sent to them wouldn't it? All emails directed to their actual email I still want to get through. Just the group ones where someone else in the team would have sorted it, by the time they're back.

Thanks

Joe
