Exchange Databases Backups via Netbackup

Hi, Guys.

Good Day!

Need your assistance on this.

Do you have any supporting articles that says seeding operation of an Exchange database copy from source/active database is considered as taking a backup of a database [active database]?

We are currently investigating why a mailbox database shows "Backup in Progress" in Exchange, while as per Backup team, the backup of such database via Netbackup hasn't started yet. Please advise.

Thank you.

Hi, Guys.

Please note that during this time 'Database showing "Backup in Progress" while its backup hasn't actually started/run yet', a seeding operation of its database copy is being run.

That's why I am asking if the seeding activity has a relation in backing up a database or considered as such? Please advise.

Thank you.

I assume you meant reseeding when you said seeding.

Nope. Database reseeding is not considered as a backup. They're totally different concepts.

But why is it in Exchange, DB1 shows 'Backup is in progress' is 'True' while reseeding DB1 is getting run/performed? Please note the as per Backup team, backup hasn't started yet for DB1 in question during this time. When the reseeding of DB1 has completed, it showed 'Backup in progress' set to 'False' for DB1. Can you explain that? Is that a coincidence? Please advise
