Exchange 2013 RententionPolicy on Deleted items Folder not Working

Hi,

we have a Exchange 2013 CU6 DAG and added a Retention Tag and created a new Retetion Policy.  The Retention Policy should "delete and allow recoverable" all item after 90 Days from the deletet item Folder. We added for testing the Policy to 1 User that have over 90'000 Items in the Deleted Items Folder. The Policy are showing over the OWA as applied on the deleted items Folder, but the Items are NOT deleted! We must force this Policy to run properly! the Start-managedfolderAssistant dous not help.

The Export-MailboxDiagnosticLogs -Identity $user.Identity -ExtendedProperties

Shows the following ELC Tags

Hi Stivie,

Thank you for your question.

Did you test it after 90 days later?

We could restart Microsoft Exchange Information Store to check if 90000 items which is before 90 days has deleted.

If there are any questions regarding this issue, please be free to let me know.

Best Regard,

Hi,

90 days later? Many items in the delteted Items Folder are older than 90 Days. The Trigger are on WhenDelivered and not when the Policy are set. We cannot during Day restart the MEIS. I will restart it at a Maintenance Windows.

Regards

Steven

Hi Stivie,

By your state, it has been 90 days. The retention tags on the delete items folder is different from other folders. If there is no retention tags on the inbox rule, the 90000 item will be deleted after another 90 days, because the message was not marked as start date stamps. The more details could be referred by the following link:

http://blogs.technet.com/b/vikass_blog/archive/2013/12/14/retention-tags-on-deleted-items-folder.aspx

In your case, if you want to delete it after 90 days, we could change the value of 90 to 45.

If there are any questions regarding this issue, please be free to let me know.

Best Regard,

Jim
