Exception HRESULT: 0x80131904
I know that its related to lack of space. How can I remove historical data to free up space to get sharepoint running again?

The easiest way is to fix this issue is to increase the storage available for SQL, at least temporarily.  You can read about it here:

Once you've gotten past the crisis you can modify the version settings on your document libraries.  Just be aware that old versions won't actually be deleted when you change the settings.  Old versions will be deleted as you edit each file that has old versions.  Editing just the metadata properties should flush the old versions of a file too.

The alternative is to do a shrink on the DBs to get back up and running.  Here's a post on shrinking the content database in SharePoint.

HI,I would suggest to delete the very old logs of share point and IIS to empty some space and Shrink the DB.Logs in SQL to freed some space in sql servers.
