Excel file is locked and I can't get it unlocked
Hi all, I have a file in a document library that I can not check out it gives me an error that it is either checked out or locked by user xxx. I went into the lib settings / manage checked out files, but there are none in there. I spoke to the user and he said he is not in it any longer. Does anyone know where I can find the lock file so I can delete it? Thanks, Joe

Hi, What access level you have? Try discarding check out and then try. In an alternative way you can ask the user xxx to check in the same. I hope this will help you out. Thanks, Rahul Rashu

I am Admin. When I go to the list there are no items checked out. If I right click I have the option to check out. when I click check out I get an error message sayiong the file is not checked out. If I open it in read only, then try to check it out from within Excel, it tells me the file is locked by user xxx. I called user xxx and he said he checked it in as he always does. I left him a voicemail last night to try to re-check out and check in, waiting to hear back from him. Thansk for the reponse :) Joe

Next time do not mark your post as an answer while the question still hasn't been solved. If I hadn't already woken up I would have seen that the OP (you) had marked a reply as an answer and would have locked the thread. The library is set to require check out. I think something got stuck during the check in process. Thanks, Joe

I must have hit mark as answer by mistake, thanks for catching it :). I was posted that I had the user with the lock re-check out the file and check it back in and all is well. Not sure why it locked during the check in process, but there doesn't seem to an answer to how to unlock the file if the user is no longer with us. Thanks, Joe
