Excel document library -- Properties?
I have an Excel Document Library on SP2007. When I add a new document, Excel is very careful to show me the Sharepoint item properties (columns) and demands that I fill in the required fields. When I subsequently open the document, it doesn't show me the properties. How do I see the properties while the Excel doc is open so I can change them?Jim

What Office of version are you using? Sounds like you're referring to the Document Information Panel.Steven Andrews | SharePoint Professional | http://www.twitter.com/backpackerd00d | https://baron72.wordpress.com/

Hi Jim, You can enable the Document Information Panel option "Show Aways" from that target SharePoint Excel library, http://www.mstechblogs.com/sharepoint/how-to-enable-document-information-panel-in-moss-2007/ Or you can show the Document information panel by clicking Office button-> Prepare ->Properties, when you are openning an Excel file using Excel 2007 . Perfect, Daniel. Thanks. One other question, if you don't mind... I have written a program in A2007 VBA to process the workbooks in the library. It's sort of my own "workflow", since I'm not allowed to create custom workflow actions.... The program reads and edits the sheet, then posts it back to the library. It wants to change a custom status column (TimesheetStatus), but the program reported the SP linked table row to be "read only" when I tried to update the column. Is this because I've got the workbook open in the Excel Object model within the same program, or is there some other tweak? Can I update the items in the Document Information Panel from vba? That might be simpler...just change 'em, then save the workbook back to the SP library.... Thanks again, Daniel!Jim

Jim, Can you ask this question in a new thread, so I can mark Daniel's response as the correct one? Thanks, StevenSteven Andrews | SharePoint Professional | http://www.twitter.com/backpackerd00d | https://baron72.wordpress.com/
