Error while deploying reporting project to SQL Server 2008 Reporting Server
I have two SQL Server instances installed: 2008 R2, and 2008 (with the name SqlServer2008). Both instances have Reporting Services installed. The Report Server URLs for both the above are as below respectively: http://Server2/ReportServer and http://Server2/ReportServer_SqlServer2008 I built a reporting project which was using 2008 R2 instance as DataSource. I was able to successfully deploy this project to the second (2008) Report Server. Later I exported the entire 2008 R2 database to 2008 instance. After this when I try to deploy the Reporting project by changing the DataSource to 2008, it gives error: Shared DataSource and Shared DataSet is not supported in Sql Server 2008. I deleted the Shared DataSource and Shared DataSet from the Solution Explorer, and kept the DataSource and DataSet settings intact in the Report Data pane. I am still not able to deploy. How to deploy the project and what changes are needed in DataSource and DataSet?

Hello OldEnthusiast, Thanks you to post the questions on TechNet forum. Based on your issue, I want to check whether you change the TargetServerVersion in the report project to SQL Server 2008. If not, it is possible to cause this kind of issue. Please follow the next instructions to check and change the type. Right click the Report Project in the BIDS, and click Properties in the popup menu.In the Property dialog, change the TargetServerVersion to SQL Server 2008.Click OK to apply the changes, and retry to deploy the report. If you still have any questions, please tell us freely. Regards, EdwardEdward Zhu TechNet Community Support
