Error when trying to install new parent site.
I am trying to install a new parent site on a server and I get the following error during the install. Set up could not install the required component. VC Redistributable. Configmgr installation cannot be completed. When I try to run the vcredist_x86 file, it errors saying: Extracting file failed. It is most likely caused by low memory (low disk space or swapping file) or corrupted cabinet file. I have tried replacing it when a new copy from the internet but it doesn’t work. Anyone have any ideas how to fix? Here is the log. 27> VC redist is being installed from C:\Users\sdonovan\AppData\Local\Temp\2\vcredist_x86.exe. <05-25-2011 19:45:27> Failed to run 'C:\Users\sdonovan\AppData\Local\Temp\2\vcredist_x86.exe /Q:a /c:"msiexec.exe /norestart /qn /l* C:\Users\sdonovan\AppData\Local\Temp\2\vcredistmsi.log /i vcredist.msi"'. Please refer to error log at C:\Users\sdonovan\AppData\Local\Temp\2\vcredistmsi.log. Have you already had a look at the logfile? Is there anything useful in it?Torsten Meringer | http://www.mssccmfaq.de

Yes, I have used these files before and they installed fine. I have also looked and there is no log file at the location. The installer file is there but no logs of anykind.

Hi, You may try to manually run the new download vcredist_x86 file from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=200b2fd9-ae1a-4a14-984d-389c36f85647&displaylang=en to check if there is still the extracting file error received. I have gotten the vcredist_x86 to work but now I get a SQL error when it is creating the database during install. I am running SQL 2008 with all latest patches on this box. <05-26-2011 12:40:06> ***SqlError: [42000][1038][Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]An object or column name is missing or empty. For SELECT INTO statements, verify each column has a name. For other statements, look for empty alias names. Aliases defined as "" or [] are not allowed. Change the alias to a valid name. Thanks! Never seen that one. Is that taken from ConfigMgrSetup.log? Are all prerequisites met? http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee344146.aspxTorsten Meringer | http://www.mssccmfaq.de

Hi, You may refer to the following information to check this issue: 1) Check the ConfigMgrSetup.log in the root of the directory on the system where you are running setup for more info. 2) Location of SQL: Is it Local or remote? If it is a remote SQL Server, please refer to the following article to check: How to Install Configuration Manager Using a Remote SQL Server 3) Check application log and check for any relevant error.
