Error when resetting a baseline for self tuning threshold
I want to reset a baseline, but when I attempt I get the following error. Any help is appreciated. I'm running SCOM 2012 RTM CU 1 on WIN 2008 R2 SP1 and a SQL 2008 R2 SP1 dbase. I am receiving the same error message when I try to "Resume, Pause, or Reset" the baseline for SQL User Connections. Do you have repro steps? I need to be able to get that same error in my lab to help you better. Thanks Jose

For Example: In the SCOM 2012 Console -> Monitoring Node -> Microsoft SQL Server MP -> Performance Folder -> User Connections -> Select MSSQL 2008: SQL User Connection and then click on any of the three options under "Baseline" and you will get this error message. MA

In my case the counter I want to reset is Terminal Server (in)Active sessions... but every self-tuning baselining counter that I have in my environment seems to have the same issueB. Wright

Hi Sadly if you need a Microsoft response then you'll need to open a PSS ticket and officially log it as a bug. Their engineers won't fix items posted on a forum. As moderators we can help with workarounds \ suggestions \ walk throughs but we can't fix bugs. Not many people use self tuning thresholds these days as they were a great idea that just didn't really work (even without the bug). http://blogs.technet.com/b/kevinholman/archive/2008/03/19/self-tuning-thresholds-love-and-hate.aspx http://systemcentersolutions.wordpress.com/category/self-tuning-thresholds/ Regards Graham Regards Graham New System Center 2012 Blog! - http://www.systemcentersolutions.co.uk View OpsMgr tips and tricks at http://systemcentersolutions.wordpress.com/

Its as Graham says. In some cases Microsoft people will try to replicate it and if they find a bug for it they might list it. ALso for me, most self tuning monitors have problems. The one for Terminal Server active sessions was again one we ran into at a new customer this week where it seems to think that 1 or 2 active sessions was OVER the baseline for dedicated terminal servers. Also partly because these get restarted every night, the baseline cant really correctly be established and thats when you get these crazy situations. IN that example we disabled it. Of course you can re-create a normal perf threshold monitor if you know what your maximum amount of sessions is for your servers in your situation or at least when you want to be warned. Otherwise only a PSS call remains to establish what the cause is and if it is a real bug (followed by crossing fingers as to which future version it is fixed in).Bob Cornelissen - BICTT (My Blog about SCOM) - MVP 2012 and Microsoft Community Contributor 2011 Recipient

Sorry for the delays getting back to you. It looks to me like a sql server mp issue. I was able to repro this in OpsMgr 2012. This does not repro in OpsMgr 2007. I upgraded the MP in my environment (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=10631). The issue still persists. So it looks like the SQL Server MP is not working as expected. The repro steps are really easy to do, so if you are interested in moving forward, I would recommend opening a support case. The other way that I saw is to go to http://connect.microsoft.com/ and see if they have a way to accept this issue in that site. Jose

Seems to me it's an issue with a Microsoft produced management pack or a core component of SCOM. This should be a known issue and being worked on and/or fixed in SP1 by Microsoft already, without anyone burning support call dollars. I have submitted this to connect.microsoft.com, however I'm not holding my breath.B. Wright

I understand your point, but based on my experience, a support case is the way to go. I've been in the support team for some time, and as soon as the issue is reproduced by the support team, they are able to engage the appropriate resources and get this case coded accordingly. Do you have the link in connect to the issue you opened? I may be able to notify internal resources, but I don't want to set expectations at this point. As I've said before, I am no longer in the support team. However, I can do my best effort to make sure the right people is engaged, but still, I believe that the support case route is the best way to make sure this is resolved. For now, please send me the link to the issue you opened in Connect. I'll keep you informed of any updates. Thanks for bringing this up to my attention. Thanks, Jose.
