Error when creating a link to a list SP 2010

I have been pulling my hair out trying to figure out why I get this error. All the users are trying to do is create a link from a list called Topics. When the user clicks on Topics they get the following error. "an unexpected error has occurred"

I highlighted the steps toward the error in yellow below.

Can anyone tell me what could be causing this problem.

Thank you so much

Hi PersianSCCM,

According your description, the error occurred when you clicked a list.

The error message doesnt provide more information. So I suggest you viewing the logs.

You could test if the error occurs when you select other lists.

Here is a blog you could check if it is helpful to you:

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/18770.sharepoint-2010-asset-picker-broken-with-windows-update-kb2844286.aspx

If all are OK, here is the method that you could try

Select the other way from address to create a link , then paste the Topics list url.

Hope it will be helpful to you.

Best Regards,

Chris

Hi PersianSCCM,

Did you install KB2844286?

If yes, you could try to uninstall windows update KB2844286 and make IIS reset.

I wonder that if your issue are similar with the issue below.

Please refer to the issue for details:
