Hello and thank you for the responsesThe account we are already using is a domain account with full admin rights.Mike, I ran the command you suggested but this has had no effect. It appears I am unable to reset the crawled content. When I click on the SSP I get a page not found error. The URL is http://server02/ssp/admin.Anymore suggestions please?

Hello Lambert,Yes, I promoted the machine to a DC after installing Sharepoint so you were on the right track. In the end, I paid for external consultancy from a company that specialises in sharepoint who were able to solve the problem. Here are the details :-1. I had to restore the directory c:\Inetpub\wwwroot\wss\VirtualDirectories\80 from backup as they had been deleted when I originally stopped the web app service2. The security groups WSS_Admin_WPG, WSS_RESTRICTED_WPG and WSS_WPG were created in Active Directory. The sharepoint service account wasmade a member of each group.3. The Web App and Search services started without the error. Problem solved and money well spent. I hope this helps anyone else who is suffering this problem.
