Error migrating users to new domain running stsadm -o migrateuser
Hi, We are running MOSS 2007 and using AD for authentication. We have now created a new domain and have migrated a number of users to the new domain. When I run the STSADM command to migrate a user in SharePoint I get the following error mesage. stsadm -o migrateuser -oldlogin OLD\testuser -newlogin NEW\testuser An error occurred while translating user name 'NEW\testuser' to a Windows account name - (DS_NAME_ERROR_DOMAIN_ONLY) When I include the -ignoresidhistory flag I get: Error migrating user profile. I have nothing in the MOSS logs or the event logs to correlate with these error messages ... not sure where to go next but what do you think?

The errors means the controller can locate the new domain but fails to find the user you seek. Baring a classic mistype, are the new accounts activated? If you have nothing in the logs, it points to an error before moss actually works. Account name resolution?Emmanuel ISSALY - Sharepoint MCTS, MCNEXT (FR).

The accounts are activated and being used - the users are using their new accounts to access content on the new domain including sharepoint content when granted access mannually .... for some reason the actual accounts are not being resolved by the migrateuser code and as you say this is required before sharepoint does anything with that account. I don't know where there might be a log entry that would help to diagnose this and solve it .. I hope there is one somewhere, what about on the AD controller maybe?
