Error installing FIM Portal - The FIM server you have entered does not exist or is not running.
I am trying to install the FIM Portal on my WSS Web Farm servers but am running into an error. My production topology is: Two Web Tier Servers: WEB1 and WEB2 (this is where the Portal and Password Portal are TO BE installed) Two App Tier Servers: FIM1 and FIM2 (this is where the FIM Sync Service and FIM Service ARE installed) DB Tier: SQL Server DB Cluster (this is where SQL Server 2008 R2 is installed and houses all necessary DBs) So far, I have successfully installed the DB tier, and the FIM Synchronization Service / FIM Service on the APP tier servers. The Sync service is only active on FIM1, while the FIM Service is load-balanced behind a DNS entry fim.company.org (for ports 5725 and 5726) across FIM1 and FIM2. I have set WSS to use Windows Auth / Kerberos only (set to use AppPoolCredentials), and have set SPNs accordingly (but I have only set SPNs on the alias fim.company.org for the FIMService on the FIM service account, and on the alias iam.company.org for HTTP on the Portal App Pool account). Delegation has been set correctly for the FIM service on both accounts, as well. When I attempt to install the Portal and Password Portal on the WEB1 server, I specify fim.company.org on the "Configure connection to the FIM Service" page...but when I click next, it waits about 10 seconds and gives me and error: "The FIM server you have entered does not exist or is not running..." I know the service is available, because I can browse to http://fim.company.org:5725 and see the Service This is a Windows© Communication Foundation service. ...page. Does anyone have ideas on what could be wrong? I am stuck on this step of my production install...

I'm not really sure where you went wrong. you seem to have covered everything. You could restart the installer from the commandline like this: misexec /i "FIM Service and Portal.msi" /L*V c:\logfilelocation\installlog.txt Perhaps the log tells you more... Good luck, Thomashttp://setspn.blogspot.com

I ended up just ignoring the error (it lets you proceed despite the error, stating that you can install the FIMService later). It works anyway. I am wondering if the check that it performs is to see if a server (not the service, itself) is running? After I installed the portal, I verified it was working correctly by going to the portal and running some searches. Despite the error received during installation of the portal, it still connects with the FIMService just fine. Thanks anyway!
