Error deleting discussion Item
I have a sharepoint site where I utilized the out-of-the-box (List View) Discussion web part. I can add threads with no issues, however if i try to delete a thread I get the following error. [COMException (0x80004005): Cannot complete this action. Please try again.] Microsoft.SharePoint.Library.SPRequestInternalClass.GetFolderContentTypeId(String bstrUrl, String bstrFolderUrl, Object& pvarContentTypeId) +0 Microsoft.SharePoint.Library.SPRequest.GetFolderContentTypeId(String bstrUrl, String bstrFolderUrl, Object& pvarContentTypeId) +117 [SPException: Cannot complete this action. At first I believed the issue had to do with my particular site but after some testing and googleing I found that a number of people have had the same issue with this web part. Does anyone have a fix for this issue? Any feedback or help would be greatly appreciated. Here are steps to reproduce: Create/View a standard Community Discussion web part on a sharepoint page. Click "Add New Discussion" link to add a discussion. Enter a subject and body. Click "OK" to create. View the Discussion web part . Click on the link of the discussion you just created in the webpart. Click on "view properties" from the tool bar. Click on "Delete Item" from the tool bar. Click "OK" button. Error appears. Hi, I could reproduce your issue in a Farm with SP2 applied, but cannot reproduce it with SP2+Feb 2010 CU. I think the issue was resolved within one of the CU between them, but I could not confirm which one. If possible, please update you SharePoint farm with latest CU found in Updates Resource Center for SharePoint Products and Technologies. Or a workaround is to ignore the error (because the item has been deleted) or use other way to delete the item. -lambertSincerely, Lambert Qin Posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.
