Error communicating with component Windows_Intune_Service

"Can not get the current execution state for component Windows_Intune_Service since it is not installed or completed installing."

* This appears in the Compmon.log every 5 minutes.

"Error communicating with component"

* This appears when I attempt to query the Windows_Intune_Service component using the Configuration Manager Service Manager.  The icon is blank and logging is not configured.

* I stopped SMS_SITE_COMPONENT_MANAGER, stopped SMS_EXECUTIVE, started SMS_SITE_COMPONENT_MANAGER.  Compsumm.log did not show any issues.  The status for the other components are 'green' and healthy.

Intune is not being used.  It appears to have been automatically installed when I applied SCCM 2012 Sp1 CU3.

How do fix the WINDOWS_INTUNE_SERVICE component?

Hi,

Base on your description, the Windows Intune Service is not installed

I recommend you check the following log files:

  1. Check the cloudusersync.log to verify users have successfully syncd to Microsoft Online (and Windows Intune). this will confirm the UPN names are consistent. If any users fail to sync, its most likely due to UPN mismatches.
  2. Check Sitecomp.log to verify that the site role was created successfully
  3. Check certmgr.log as well, which will share the connector certificate with the machine hosting the role. This will happen after role install is complete, the logs of the components (UserSync, DMP*Loader) might indicate at the beginning that it is waiting for the cert
  4. Check the Dmpuploader.log to verify the connector site system role is able upload policy etc. to the Windows Intune Service.
  5. Check the Dmpdownloader.log to verify that the connector is able to download messages from Windows Intune. Note: this log might only show a ping at the beginning, there might be no messages created for download initially

Cloudusersync.log, Dmpuploader.log and Dmpdownloader.log are all found on the Windows Intune Connector role (%sms install dir%\logs).

Check the cloudusersync.log to verify users have successfully syncd to Microsoft Online (and Windows Intune).

Terry mentiond that "Intune is not being used" so your steps won't help.
I see the error all the time when using ConfigMgr service manager so this does not indicate a problem IMHO. The entries in compmon.log are also expected if the role is not installed.
To make a long stor short: there's nothing to worry about.

Team,

I suspected that having this component in this half-baked state was 'OK'.  It was a 'feature' that appeared out of nowhere.  It was never mentioned in any of the installation wizards when I was applying Sp1 or CU1/2/3.  I was aware of Intune support as part of SCCM, but I wasn't going to use Intune right now.  The coding for this appears to be kind of 'gimped'.  It has put the status of the installed components OutOfTune.

I'm seeing the same after installing CU5 for SCCM 2012R2.

Message in Compmon.log is as follows:

"Can not get the current execution state for component Windows_Intune_Service since it is not installed or completed installing."

We're not using Windows Intune nor have we ever.

Our environment is Win Server 2012R2, SQL Server 2012 w SP1 and SCCM2012R2
