Do you have a backup of your server? Restoring machine.config from that backup might be the easiest way out.

Is your application an internet facing or FBA based application? Is it having anonymous access? What is the exception you are getting when you are trying to open the Central Administration site? BR, PM

That time, I just had to open my web.config and comment the <authentication mode="windows"> and my application worked. Just an idea!!BR, PM
