Error C1900101-20004

Tried two times to upgrade from Windows 8.1 to 10. Both times failed at Files 84% and in the circle at 25%.

Error (after forced reboot and reload Windows 8.1, C1900101-20004. I have a Toshiba Intel Core i3. Have standard software, but I am using also Oracle Virtual Machine software, where I have installed Windowx XP, where I have installed Siemens S7 software, TIA Portal (Siemens), and some other technical software also. Just wondering if this could be the reason for the failure.

I have tried installing windows 10 four times on my windows 7 home premium, and each time get the Error C1900101-2004.  I have tried multiple suggestions from different sites with no luck.  It appears we are not the only ones that are getting this error.  If I figure it out I will post what finally worked.  Very frustrating.

Same here. It happens exactly like this, when it hits 24% of the installation progress, windows reboots and goes back to windows 7 home basic. It's frustrating!! What can we do?

Hi,

First of all when this problem occurs during system upgrade, please try to unplug all unnecessary devices that connect to the computer and have a try again.

If problem persists, access to the path below to collect installation log file, then upload the file to OneDrive and post the download link here:

Hello,

I'm getting this same error. I have tried numerous times with different methods, eg download via media creation tool, update from Windows Update, etc. I have tried disabling Video card and network card (even once tried uninstalling and removing network card entirely) and still no joy. Always fails at 25%, 84% of copying files and always with the same error:

c1900101-20004 The installation failed in the safe_OS phase with an error during INSTALL_RECOVERY_ENVIRONMENT operation

My setuperr.log here: http://1drv.ms/1OVE3tC

I am installing on a 100GB partition with 60GB free, have 4GB RAM and have run both sfc check and disk error check with no errors. After first few tries it eventually wouldn't boot correctly and lost explorer somehow. I did a clean install of Windows 8, did all the 150+ updates, then updated to 8.1, another 60+ updates and now this: exactly the same error I had before!

Some have said it has something to do with a recovery partition, but I don't think I have (ever had) one, unless it is somehow hidden within the C drive on the disk management tool.

Can you help?

Same problem here and I've tried more than 4 times with windows update and media tool using DVD. I have 8GB RAM and over 100GB free. I'm trying to update from Windows 7.

What good is a free upgrade that doesn't work?!

My experience with this problem:

Well as most of you may have read, at least those of you who bother to read my stuff on FB, I have been trying and failing to upgrade to Windows 10 and the saga continues.

I am writing and posting this mainly to have a bit of a go at the high and mighty Microsoft Company.

Yesterday I once more attempted to upgrade and again it froze. Enough being enough it was time to get hold of Microsoft chat help, time just after 20:00. Things are now looking up as I get help quickly and they take over remotely and start working on my machine. Time passes and we reach a point where the person says they are unable to help further and gives me a link and phone number for further assistance.

Well the number does not get through and the link leads to Microsoft Store. By the way my pc now has everything left in the middle of where the person left and me with my jaw hanging open.

After some battle I get another chat operator who then gives me another link which I am not sure is where I should be heading. I make contact but am 418 in line. So being determined I hang on. Over one and a half hours later I get to number 1 and get help. I give Dave A, as he is called, my reference number and he tells me to hang on for two minutes while he checks the reference number. Two minutes pass and I get a message: Thank you. Dont hesitate to come back and chat with an Answer Tech if you need help again. Boom The chat is ended.

So I try the link again. I am 405 in the queue. No I am not waiting another hour and a half, I have to get up early in the morning so I make contact with the first chat bunch and get through quickly but after giving my reference number he asks for 2 to 3 minutes to read about the problem. He comes back with the solution I should contact Microsoft in South Africa. Brilliant. Of course it is now 00:30 in the morning. Perhaps another day.

Wow that's a bummer. I've also had this problem.

This is all I've tried so far with no success:

1.Tried disabling the ethernet card via the device manager. Don't Work

2. Removed the Optical Drive (DVD player) that was connected via SATA. Don't Work

3. Tried to do it from the "Media Creation Tool" and load the windows 10 updater thing onto a flash card to use, but I find this very confusing despite having loaded it onto the flash card. Everytime I go to the card and click on "setup.exe" i get "Use the other installation disc that says 64-bit. When you insert it, Windows Setup will restart automatically"

Makes me really lose faith that we've got a nice new operating system.

Also,

to Roger Lu, I'm posting those results to you from:

These are the files from my "Rollback" folder as there was nothing logged past 2013 within the "Panther" folder that I could see.

"rollbackinfo.ini"

https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=DBBECDA351D949EC!1307&authkey=!AHTaHHc43t77clk&ithint=file%2cini

"setupact.log"

https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=DBBECDA351D949EC!1306&authkey=!APbOeZOUjl2iPhw&ithint=file%2clog

Also, it should be noted that the "Setuperr.log" for both the "Panther" and "Rollback" Folders were empty with no notes.

So I finally got Windows 10 Installed!

After maybe 15 attempts, I managed to get my hands on an old VGA cable and completely uninstall and remove my Asus (Nvidea) Graphics card. I nearly had a heart attack when copying files went to 85%!

Now reinstalled Graphics with Windows 10 drivers and got the network card back in too using the Troubleshoot tool to install in Windows 7 mode. Working perfectly.

Not sure if it's worth all the hassle just yet, though it is nice to have a (native) start button back, and Cortana is worth laugh too for all of half an hour.

I had a tech do the same thing his solution was to try and sell me a repair program for $69.99 I said no way, I have a genuine copy of 8. than he said I can't use my copy of windows 8 since it was a upgrade from 7 and  need to buy a full copy of windows 8. What a crock of bull.

This is in regards to the Windows 10 update error at around 85%.

These are the files from my "Rollback" folder as there was nothing logged past 2013 within the"Panther" folder that I could see.

Use the Windows 10 Media Creation tool to upgrade your Windows 8.1. After the first upgrade and activation you can then perform a clean install if you wish.
