Hi Aeribop,

Please take the following steps to have a check.
1.Run the built-in troubleshoot tool to have  a diagnostic :
 Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Troubleshooting\All Categories\Windows Update.

2.Clear the windows update cache.
 net stop wuauserv
  cd %systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution
  ren Download Download.old
  net start wuauserv
Restart the machine and manually check for updates again

3.Try the fixit tool to reset Windows update Components
How do I reset Windows Update components?

If the issue persists, we could create an installation media from the link below. Please ensure the machine is update to date and you have chosen the "Upgrade" option.
Download Windows 10

I'm having the exact same issue, although none of the listed suggestions are working.  I DID have the windows 10 app for two weeks, then it disappeared.  Now it will come up in windows update but gives me the same error code:  8024201C.  Fix it does nothing and the Update Troubleshooter just says the problem wasn't resolved.  When downloading from the media creation tool, I get the "something happened." error message.  Windows 7 Home Edition SP1.

Hi kleightontaylor,

"When downloading from the media creation tool"
Do you mean you choose the "Upgrade" option of the media creation tool.
Please choose "Creat an installation media for another machine " and boot from the installation media to upgrade. Please ensure you have chosen the "Upgrade" option when choose the installation type.
Before we do the upgrade, please run "sfc /scannow" to check the health of system files and upluag all the external devices.

Best regards

If you are trying to upgrade a Sony PC to windows 10 you will have to wait

until they release new drivers October and November 2015.

Sony laptops won't upgrade until then.

I have tried both options.  Neither have worked - I still get the something happened error message regardless of the route I take.  I did a system scan at your suggestion, and everything seems to be ok.  I have an HP Pavilion p6000 series.

this worked for me!

Stop Windows Update Service

Go to C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download folder

Delete all files and folders

Run Windows Updates, Check for updates.
