Encryption Key Change

Hey All!

We are running System Center DPM 2012r2 and are using Azure as our offsite.

We have to change our encryption key as we do not have our old key any longer. I see that I can do this from inside the DPM Console under management and the Azure settings.

The question is: Will this apply the encryption key to all of the data that has been backed up, and that will be backed up in the future?

Many thanks in advance for the help!

Hi,

Are you referring to the Passphrase ?  You can change that without effecting older backups as seen in wording when changing it.  Be sure to save the new passphrase in a safe location in case you need to re-register the DPM Server to the same vault. Without the correct passphrase the encrypted backups cannot be restored.

DPM never stores any passphrase, it only uses it to encrypt and decrypt data when needed. In order to decrypt old data (recovery points) you would need the previous pass phrase.

New pass phrase applies to new recovery points that get created post modifying this pass phrase.

Hope that helps
