Encountering problems when implementing UNC shares

Hello,

I want to use UNC shares based on my company's SharePoint but to no avail....

When doing so, I get the following errors:

  1. Source for file and printer sharing (regalgroup.sharepoint.com) is online, but the server is not responding to connection attempts.
  2. Having trouble when trying to 'convert' SharePoint paths to UNC paths (example: \\regalgroup.sharepoint.com_layouts\15\start.aspx#\Lists\Companies\AllItems.aspx).

I would be very grateful if someone could help me out with this one.

Thanks in advance!

Check if that works when you go to companies list and select open with explorer view

What is type of that that list\library.

It may not work when users login to windows. Atleast once you need to open that URL in IE before you try explorer view directly

It's a document library which I cannot open in Explorer View, I get the following error: 'We have encountered an error while opening the library in Windows Explorer'.

Then it advises me to sync the library using OneDrive for Business but that's not a fitting solution due to security limitations.

Edit: Tried to install a hotfix but that left me with a 'this update does not apply to your computer'-error...

That hotfix is for XP machines, hopefully you're on something more modern which will either handle things as it is, or will need a different hotfix. What OS are you using on the machine trying to connect?

Are any other machines able to connect to the SharePoint environment using the explorer view?

I am using Windows 7 Ultimate x86 on which I tried to install SP1 but that did not go well.

As for other machines, I have my laptop at hand with Windows 7 Pro x64 on it with IE 11 and tested it.

It works as in it shows the root with the files and I can see the URL of that page but I have yet to test it within the business enviroment.

I'll let you know if it works for other users.

EDIT: The element that makes the Explorer View possible is disabled/not functioning properly.
This is weird since I have Full Control over the SharePoint environment but I suspect that there might be a few limitations.

It could be that a Group Policy is preventing me from opening SharePoint documents in the Explorer View, I'd have to check why the element is disabled.

So it works from one machine, non-domain joined running Win 7 but failed on another domain joined Win 7 machine?

There are known limitations around servers which mean that open with explorer doesn't work, then again that shouldn't be relevant here.

That's weird....I have installed IE 11 on my local machine and the option to open in Explorer View isn't greyed out.

But when I want to open it, it will open my OneDrive folder/give an error screen/button is greyed out.

So that leads me to believe that there might be a problem when joining a domain and trying to click the 'Open in Explorer View'.
