Enable Farm as web front end server
My farm is not set as a Web front end anymore. How do I put it back as a web front end server without re-installing SharePoint 2007?

Hi, I am not sure whether this can be achieved without reinstalling SharePoint and I have not done it, but here are some links for referencehttp://www.experts-exchange.com/OS/Microsoft_Operating_Systems/Server/MS-SharePoint/Q_23393375.html http://www.eggheadcafe.com/software/aspnet/35657451/change-a-sharepoint-farm.aspx Thanks,Skancharla

Hi, What do you mean by your farm is no longer a web front end? Do you mean when you view 'services in farm' the radio button is no longer selected? RegardsAaron

In the SharePoint admin the server role is set as "Single Server or Web Server for small server farms" but the Web application service is not listed anymore for that server. Here how everything started: We did a clone of our server which is a VM. Then started the clone and renamed it for test. Then the stsadm command was used to rename the server on the test VM. That command screw up the production server. I was able to fix the production server so it will run again but some parts in it didn't work anymore like the SharedServices, in the solution section all the solutions are marked as not deployed and the server doesn't have the web application service listed under it anymore. Also I have noticed that somewhere the login for our test server is still used by the production server but I could not figured where it is used. I don't think I can re-install MOSS on my production server because I am not able to do a full backup of the farm and I will loose many workflows data.

Hi Envol, I am not sure what you have done to the production server, could you please let me know more details? Also please let me know the answer to these questions as well: 1. When you said “We did a clone of our server which is a VM”, was the VM is your production server? 2. How about the database server? On the same VM or is there a dedicated server? 3. Did the test VM connect to the same database server? 1- We have VM for our production server so we did a clone of this VM and renamed the clone SPTest. 2- We are using a single farm and the database in the same server. 3- After the clone was done, the SA started the clone SPtest and used the command RenameServer. Nothing was done to change the SharePoint configuration before using the RenameServer command.

Hi Envol, In your previous post, you said the “That command screw up the production server”, but the SPTest VM should be isolated from the production environment, and the command only affects the database on the SPTest VM. Or one scenario in my mind is you use FQDN name such as db.yourdomian.com as the Datbase, and the command change the database in your production? Could you please clarify it? Moreover, could you please check the Event Viewer both in your production and SPTest and see if some error logged there?
