Enable Custom Field to appear in the Bar Style dialog window

Hi,

We defined a custom filed (date) and called it "commitment date".

we want to use it in our Gantt Views.

When we open the Bar Styles dialog box, we don't see this field in the list of 'From' and 'To' and we cannot select it.

we only see for example Start1 to Start10.

Thank you,

Yuval

* we use Project 2010 SP-1

Hi Yuval,

Just a though: why not using the out of the box "deadline" column which is automatically displayed in the Gantt chart bar style?

Hi,

The Deadline is problematic since it affects the Total Slack. I want a field to preserve the commitment date without affecting the calculations and the critical paths.

Thanks,

I cannot test it right now, but if you say so, it means that you cannot add a bar style through enterprise custom fields. A workaround would be to use the finish1 date local custom field with a formula (=commitment date) and use finish1 in the bar style.

Yes, this is an option, but it is not so elegant since I need to define this calculated field for each project that we have in the system. also - it creates a duplication of data.

Isn't there a way to configure MSP to allow additional fields in the Bar Style?

Thanks,

Yuval

Hi Yuval,

Indeed it is not the most elegant way to acheive your goal but there is no way to configure MSP so a date ECF can be used in the bar style. That being said, you do not have to create this calculated field for all project. For the new projects, the local date field with the formula can be created and added to the project Template. For the existing ones, the project managers can use the organizer to catch the new field and the new view with the Gantt chart.
