Emails Not Stored in Active Directory
Our organization (government) is such that 2 different entities administer Active Directory and Exchange. We have control over AD but not Exchange. As such, we do not have direct access to our personnel's email addresses. Without email addresses in AD it is my understanding that there is no way to use email-related functionality in SharePoint. In the future we may be able to institute a policy whereby someone's email is added to AD upon creation, but currently this policy does not exist. Even if it did, there are thousands of users currently in AD with no email address mapped to their AD account.Ideally, we would have some way for users to explicitly specify their email address through their MySite since we don't have direct access through AD. Is this possible?

Everything strats with AD. If AD does not have the email address of the user, then the profile imports won't have it available for SharePoint to leverage either. Your only option, provided you have access to user's email addresses via the AD account in Exchange, is to do some custom import tool that'll take it from Exchange and push it into, preferably AD so the profile imports can just flow as it was designed to do.I trust that answers your question...ThanksChttp://www.cjvandyk.com/blog
