Email alerts from standalone WSS 3.0
I know this is a noob question, but can I setup out-going email alerts on a stand-alone WSS 3.0 server? Do I need to have a separate smtp server? I don't need my server to receive emails, just send alerts. Thanks

Okay, So I have setup my server as apop3 mail server. In the Central administration site I have set the outgoing mail server to the FQDN of my server. I have tested the alert function and it doesn't work. This is my first time setting up an email server so I don't know if I am doing this correctly. Is this scenario evencapable ofworking?

You actually need to set up your server to be a SMTP server. See how that goes. LoryanMCSE 2003, MCTS (2008, LCS, OCS, SharePoint) http://www.paradyne.com.au http://www.bpossibility.com
