Email Subscription failure
Hello All, I have created a Data Driven Subscription on a report which send out email to the mentioned users. This is scheduled to run on daily basis. This works fine, but some time, the subscription fails with the error as "Failure sending mail: An error occurred within the report server database. This may be due to a connection failure, timeout or low disk condition within the database.Mail will not be resent." I am not getting what error is this. Which database server this is reffering to, which log should I see to know the exact cause and fix it. Please help. Thanks in advance

Mady02, It is referring to Report Server DB which is the reporting services uses to run. Look in Report Server configuration manager in the database tab and there you will see the server and the database information used. For detailed logs go in to Program Files >Sql Server > ....reporting services directory > log files and there you will see the logs which it creates. Just on top of my head is the file that you are trying to send too big to be sent on email? Regards, Vikram

Thanks Vikram, I will surely look into the logs you mentioned. Also the files are sent daily and not too big. I am using MHTML Web Archive format. The failure is not often. But I willl see the logs today and will let you know. Thanks

Hi mady, If possible, you can try to change to another SMTP server to see if this issue can be solved. thanks, Jerry

This seems to be a microsoft bug that has persisted even in sql 2008 R2. The workaround (and not permanent solution) was to go to Reporting Services Configuration Manager -> Database -> click on the Change Credentials and provide the Report Server credentials afresh and Click to apply to the Report server database. Afterwards the email subscriptions worked fine without a hitch. It seems the database credentials used to connect to the Reports database get lost or corrupted at some point in time and require a manual reapply of the credentials but definitely this is a bug.
