We're running WSS 3.0 and I have "full control" access privledges.I am unable to:1) Edit user profiles other than my own.2) Add new columns to the user site listsI am able to:-Add/edit columns on every other site library and list-Add/edit site lists & libraries-Edit my own user profile-Manage user permissionsEverything else listed below..We are trying to get user profiles set up in SP to hold photos, contact info, skillsets, and other information to help users connect with one another at our various offices. We have roughly 1200 users we need to set up profile information for and would like to divide the "catch up" up amongst 3-4 users to get everything set up and then have it centrally managed when new people are hired. When I tried this on a test WSS 3.0 site we had a few months ago, I know for a fact I was able to add new columns to the list, so I'm not sure what would be causing the difference now...Here's the full list of what this SP site is giving me for permissions options...I don't see anything about editing other user profiles...List Permissions Manage Lists - Create and delete lists, add or remove columns in a list, and add or remove public views of a list. 1) You can edit other users profile if you are the site collection administrator. Farm administrator (usually the one who had setup the SharePoint Server farm, but not necessarily be) has the privilege to add you as site collection administrator in Central Administration->Application Management->Site Collection administrators. A current site collection administrator also has the privilege to add you as site collection administrator in Site Actions->Site Settings->Site Collection Administrators. 2) You have Full control on parent site does not necessarily mean you also have Full control on the child site, the child site may have been created with unique permission setting. Even you have full control on the site, the permission inheritance on the list can be broken so that you dont have enough permission on the lists. You should have permission for the list checked (list settings -> permission for the list) to make sure you have enough permission to add new columns to the list.

Please check if you have the permission to edit user profile at Central Administration->Shared Service Administration (select the appropriate SSP)->Personalization Service Permissions.

I like your response above, makes sense! But there is one problem, I can give the permission to one of my trusted users but I dont want them accessing the SSP in Central Admin. Is there another location they can go to access the list of users (profiles) and be able to select the one that they want to edit and save those entries? Meaning, can they log into the SP site and go to Site Actions somewhere and find the list of profiles to edit? Thanks!
