Editing Excel in Browser deletes title from document library.
We just noticed an issue where if we update an Excel file using Office Web Apps, when we return to the library the excel title is missing from the document library. The name and other metadata in the library all seem to be preserved, it's only the Title field that seems to be deleted. We confirmed this behavior on several different site collections and on our test environment which has SP1 installed as well.

Anyone know of a fix for this?

Hi Nick,

According to your description, my understanding is that the Title became blank after you edited the excel file with Office Web app.

Whether this issue occurred when you edited the files of other types, like word or ppt.

Please install SharePoint 2013 SP1, compare the result.

I hope this helps.

Yes, the title becomes blank after editing an Excel file with Office Web Apps.

This does not occur with Word nor PowerPoint.

As noted in my original post, we tested this on an environment with SP1 and the issue remains.

Thanks.

I just tested this out in one of my Office 365 site collections and it's happening there too. Looks like a bug.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Upload an Excel document to a Document Library. Make sure you provide a title for the document.
  2. Click on the document name to open in browser.
  3. Drop down the EDIT WORKBOOK menu and select Edit in Excel Online.
  4. Make some changes in the document and go back to the document library. You will find that the document title's gone blank.

Hi Nick,

We have experienced the same issue.

Issue Description
============================
Editing Excel in Browser deletes title of the document.

Reproduce Steps
============================
1. go to a library containing the excel files   click '...' in an excel item  click 'edit properties'  type a title
2. open the excel document online   click EDIT WORKBOOK  click Edit in Excel Online   edit the content Save it
3. go back to the library  click '...'  click 'view properties'  the title is deleted.

Currently we have lodged a Microsoft Support Case and they are working with the related team to go further and resolve this issue.

I'm still seeing this issue with an OnPrem and we are running SP1, does anyone have an update if this is fixed?

Unfortunately this is still occurring for us as well with our OnPrem environment.

Do you have an update on that MS support case? We see the same issue in our on-prem Office Web Apps 2013 environment.
