Editable form template
Hi, New to SP using MOSS 2007. I want to be able to store a Word 2007 document (an invoice form/stencil) in a site library that can be accessed with a url from another application so that users can fire up the doc, fill in the form and save it to another location. I don't want the user to have to check the document out. Just fire it up, fill it out and save to another location without checking out or editing the original. I'm assuming that I am missing something completely obvious? John

Unless you have "required checkout" enabled, then there should be no problem. A document in a library is accessed with just a URL. Here's a few thoughts: Store the document as a template (.dot, dotx, etc) Set the library or just the folder or just the document to only "Read" access for most users (now they have to save someplace else) Users from the other application will need at least "Read" access to the library. Have I misunderstood your question? Mike Smith TechTrainingNotes.blogspot.com

a better option would be to use infopath forms for that purpose, you can make a new template for your form requirements save it in a sharepoint form library and give the users unique permissions by creating your custom permissions in the advance permissions option

No, I think you are making sense of my problem. I'll give it a try. I'm guessing we must have "required checkout" flagged. thanks John

We havedn't looked at Infopath yet but that sounds a better solution in the long term. thanks John
