If they can access the document library and also have not been blocked from accessing the document itself, then they can both amend the metadata and can access and edit the document itself. So SharePoint can not do what you want. You will have to block amending the document in other ways such as maybe password protecting it so it can't even be read or using rights management software to block people from doing more than read the document. 2010 Books: SPF 2010; SPS 2010; SPD 2010; InfoPath 2010; Workflow etc. 2007 Books: WSS 3.0; MOSS 2007; SPD 2007; InfoPath 2007; PerformancePoint; SSRS; Workflow Both lists also include books in French; German; Spanish with even more languages in the 2007 list.

Thanks Mike for your reply. My problem is that I need quite flexible proviliges. I've got group of users and document. All users can modify the metadata and view document, but only one user (so called current user - CU ), can modify the content of document. CU can assign the document to other user and the new user become a CU. So any ideas that could help me? Best regards

Allow the group to make modifications to the document Require Content Approval and have the CU either approve or reject the document. You can set the version control properties such that only the approver and submitter see the drafts until the changnes have either been approved or if rejected they never see the proposed changes.. -IvanIvan Sanders My LinkedIn Profile, My Blog, @iasanders.

To meet that kind of requirement, you would need to a fair amount of custom work, possibly via visual studio workflow.--Paul Galvin, Computer Generated Solutions (CGS) Microsoft MVP - SharePoint Blogging @ http://www.mstechblogs.com/paul Twitter @ http://www.twitter.com/pagalvin
