Edit Group members in SharePoint 2007 using Central Admin
Hi Shayaan,
If you get Access Denied error when make change to a site group, it means you dont have permission to modify this group. But Site Collection Administrator should have full control permission in all web sites with current site collection. So it is
really strange problem, could you please kindly ask another administrator to check your permission again? And also ask farm admin to find more error details in ULS log (Located in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\12\LOGS
folder on SharePoint Server).
Thanks & Regards,

How do I add or remove a member in a Group?
September 7th, 2012 2:58pm
You cannot edit group membership for sites from within Central Administration, unless you're editing group membership for groups that are part of the CA site. You must administrate groups from within the site that they exist.
See Manage membership of SharePoint groups for adding and removing users from a SharePoint group.

How do I check if I am a site collection administrator or a site owner?
September 7th, 2012 3:20pm
If you were a site owner, your account would be in the Site Owners group or any group that has the full control permission. If you're a site administrator you'll appear in the site administrators list (Site Actions -> Site Settings -> Site Collection
Administrators)

How do I get to the 'Site Owner' group?
I see my name listed in 'Site Collection Administrator' but when I try to edit a group I get an error that I am not authorized.
