ERROR: Failed to encrypt serialized certificate

I lost the logical drive where we had SCCM 2012 SP1 installed on a Windows 2008 R2 server.

The database (SQL 2008 R2 10.50.2811) was on another drive which was not affected.

When I run the installer to recover the site it errors out with "Fail to create SQL Server Certificate, ConfigMgr installation cannot be completed."

The log file has:

Did you recover the site from a new site or the old site? Could you please upload the full log?

Sorry it took so long to get back...

I have included the ConfigMgrSetup log file.  We get the same results rather we choose "Recover the site database using the backup set" or rather we choose "Use a site database that has been manually recovered". since the site database was on an drive that was unaffected we can just point to it.

I solved this problem by removing following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SMS
