Duplicate systems
It seems that I can't get people to delete old systems from SCCM. So when they replace a system I have two with the same name (different GUIDs) but really I can't seem to find a way to pin point with is the real one and which isn't. Basically the process is System 1234 is being replaced, so they setup 1234TMP, when they are done they rename 1234TMP to 1234 and just turn off and reimage or retire. This ends up leaving two systems in my DB with the same name. This leads to issues when adding systems to collections (only one will get added if using the right click tools), if adding by hand both will. But right now I have about 1048 systems with dup entries amounting too 2114 (some have as many as 6 entries but most are 2). Is there anyway to figure out which are the right ones? Right now I look at the systems SMSCFG.ini and see which one has he correct GUID, however I'm sure you can see how time consuming this is.

Depending on your process then you just might as well delete the machine from AD and SCCM before starting. why are you renaming machines? So you can see the old information while you image? Why don't you just rename the original to xxxxxTMP, run a Discovery Data Cycle to the name will rename in the console. then you can image the new machine and then you can delete the TMP computer. Or create a scheduled task that reads the server via SDK and remotes all *TMP machines that have a matching machine and haven't booted in 30 days. http://www.sccm-tools.com http://sms-hints-tricks.blogspot.com
