Dual boot switch OS issue

Dual boot Win 8.1 Pro and Win10TP 10041
Default OS is Win 8.1 Pro

In the past, no matter which OS I was using, if I clicked Restart I would be given a choice of which OS.

Not any more.

If I was on Win 8.1 and I clicked Restart, it sent me right back to Win 8.1 sign in page.

If I was on 10041 and I clicked Restart, it sent me right back to 10041 sign in page.

So, if I need to switch OS, I will have to do the long way via Settings > Recovery > Advanced Startup.....

Any one with dual boot having the same issue ?

I forgot, There is a "shorter " way.

Press and hold Shift key > click Restart > Choose another operating system > now I can select the one I want to use.

But, I would like to know what has happened to simple Restart option.

Hi david hk129,

Have you disabled the fast boot to check the result?

No, I have not. But I am installing 10049 now. See if I will inherit the problem.

If yes, I'll try disabling fast boot.

Thing is, why do I have to do that ?

Update of my original problem....................

10049 instaled, duall boot with Win 8.1

Problems :

1. No matter which OS I am on, when I click Restart, I do NOT get the option to choose which OS I want to use.

2. No matter which OS I am on, Restart wil send me straight to the Default OS sign in page.

Yes, I went to Power Options and UN-check the Fast boot. Makes no difference.

Any solution for this ?

Maybe try running "msconfig", clicking the "boot" tab, and making sure that the "timeout" value is above 3-4 seconds at least? You may have already checked that but I just wanted to give you the idea just in case.

Thank you.

I forgot about the time-out part.

That was the solution.
