Drivers - Selection Profile in SCCM 2012, picking drivers based on model ?

In MDT/WDS it was easy to Set Task Sequence variable for DriverGroup001 to Windows7\x64\%Model% and use selection profiles for it to pick drivers only from the driver pack for the right model.

Based on this - https://4sysops.com/archives/driver-deployment-with-microsoft-deployment-toolkit-mdt-part-1-os-deployment/

Now that i moved to SCCM 2012, it seems to be a lot more complicated to do the same thing.

Is there a way to get SCCM with MDT integration to do something similar and only apply drivers for the right model from the correct driver pack ?

(i did find a way if adding a Task Sequence step for each model with login based on  "If model = T7810 install this," "If model =T5500 Install this"  etc for each and every step.  this would involve adding about 20 steps in to TS. this seems like a backwards way of doing this.

is there a better solution ?

This is the only way to deploy drivers in a controlled manner.
